Private Pilot

Initial Private training is done in a 1973 Cessna 150L. Students are required to do ground school on their own utilizing online study material like King Schools or Sporty’s. There is a certain amount of flight time that must be obtained and 3 tests that must be passed to obtain your private pilot license. There is a maximum weight limit of 200-220 lbs. to be able to use the C-150L.

Aircraft Rental with Instruction $180 / hour

Aircraft Rental $120 / hour wet (includes fuel)

Flight Instruction is $60 / hour


Time Required: 40 hours flying minimum which consists of at least: 20 hours minimum of flight training with an instructor & 10 hours minimum of solo flying.

The Tests: The first test that must be passed is the Private Pilot Written Exam. The above mentioned ground school courses will prep you for this 60 question exam.

The second & third test are often performed together and done with an DPE (designated pilot examiner) These tests are called the oral and practical. During the oral the DPE will spend a few hours with you asking questions and giving scenarios to see how you respond. The Practical test is the flying portion. During the flight test the DPE will test you on multiple maneuvers. Afterwards if the DPE finds that you meet the ACS (Airmen Certification Standards) then he will issue you a Private Pilot License.



Tail Wheel Endorsement

The tail wheel endorsement can be one of the most fun flying experiences you can have. It is a fun challenge that improves your stick and rudder skills. Planesmen aviation does not currently offer a tailwheel aircraft for instruction and you would be responsible for providing that aircraft.

Commercial Rating

If you want to fly for hire then you’ll need your commercial rating. Once you have most of your time acquired Planesmen Aviation can get you prepared to pass you tests for your commercial rating.

To become a commercial pilot you must pass a written test, along with the oral and practical test.

A commercial rating requires the following: 250 hours of flight time, 100 hours of which must be in powered aircraft, and 50 must be in airplanes.
